Appearance: Shinobu is an old man with white, mane-like hair, a thick beard which reaches to his chest and greenish-grey eyes. He's very muscular despite his age and wears a sleeveless Shihakusho with a red sash.
Personality:  He used to be a hot-headed man during his younger years, but over the many years of his life he matured into a calm and calculating person who never acts on impulse. He's brave and extremely proud, and one of the few things that can make him really angry is when someone insults his pride and he'll hunt down and punish everyone who's stupid enough to try it. Despite this more vengeful side of him he can also be very polite and helpful and he never hesitates to help people out with some advice, or as he likes to call it 'share his experience of life', when they ask him for it, especially with younger people, because they often remind him of the siblings he once had and loved.

Bio
Shinobu grew up in the 76st district of South Rukongai as the oldest son of a family of eight. They were really poor and lived from hand to mouth, so as soon as he reached an age where he could take care of himself his father threw him out of the house and told him to never  come back again.
At first he didn't know where to go, so he just wandered around in the districts, looking for a place he could belong. After some months he met with a small group of other  boys who also lost their homes, and so he joined them and eventually became their leader. The group got by with stealing the food and the water they needed or collecting it in the nearby wood, and after a while they became really close and started to care deeply for each other.
A few years later, while they were out in the wood looking for something to eat, Shinobu's group suddenly got attacked by a huge hollow. He immediately tried to protect his friends, but got hit by a punch from the hollow that blew him away into the thicket and knocked him unconscious. When he awoke and crawled out of the bushes he couldn't find neither the hollow nor his friends. He searched for them everywhere, but it took a while for him to realized that he was the only survivor and everyone else of his friends had been killed.
After this incident he spent his days alone again, until he heard that the entrance exams in the Spiritual Arts Academy were soon to start. Even though he wasn't really interested in becoming a Shinigami he took the exams with the hope for a place to live, and barely passed it.
During his years in the Academy it turned out that he was in fact really gifted and was soon considered a genius by his teachers and fellow students. He passed with excellent grades and became 10th seat of the third division afterwards. He worked his way up to 3rd seat since then and is still a member today.

Battle Information

Strengths: Due to being a Shinigami for many years he's a very capable fighter in both Kido and Zanjutsu as well as in hand-to-hand combat. Despite his age he's also physically very strong.

Weaknesses: He's quite fast with Shunpo, but he can't maintain the high speed  for a long time and get's quickly exhausted.

Fighting Style: He's a calm fighter who prefers to analyze his opponent's strengths and weaknesses first to finish him off with a single blow afterwards.

Zanpakuto: Kinsei no Shishiou (golden lion king)

Sealed form: A Nodachi with a red hilt, a golden sheath and a octagonal tsuba.

Spirit: A golden lion with bright, red eyes. He wears his Shikai form on the front paws, is  as proud as his Shinigami partner and doesn't talk much.

Release Phrase: Let out your roar! (Unaridase!)

Shikai: In Shikai, Kinsei no Shishiou turns into two red and blue colored gauntlets. Three sharp blades protrude from where his knuckles are on each gauntlet, like the claws of a lion.

Bankai: He was never interested in achieving Bankai, so he doesn't have one even after all this centuries.

Notes

- Shinobu likes sake, having a chat with his Zanpakuto-spirit and being around young people. He hates people who insult his pride, liars and cold weather.
- In Gigai he wears a suit with a red tie and a bowler hat.
- His favourite colors are red and gold.
- His favourite food is everything meat, preferably rare steaks. He dislikes vegetables and vinegar.
